There is also an undercurrent of tension to the whole book, driven by genuine voodoo and superstition common at that time period, which makes sure it’s never boring. Pirates! is a genuinely good pirate book, with likable characters, exciting adventures, and, surprisingly enough, passable historical accuracy depicting the lifestyle during the golden age of piracy. They experience all kinds of piratical escapades-and a dose of romance, too. The girls sail all over the Atlantic in search of William, from the Bahamas to Madagascar, hunted all the while by the Brazilian. But that's just my take on things. I like the fact that the novella Cenobites are ambiguous enough (and, oddly, nice enough) that they could conceivably even be benign (as long as you're not dumb enough to open the box). Personally, I always though Barker and the other movie people did the Cenobites a great disservice by claiming they are some form of demon from Hell. The Cenobites in the novella are mysterious enough (and morally neutral enough) that any explanation of them probably works (by the second movie, on the other hand, they've acquired too much of a backstory to make it work, IMO). I think if you stick to the novella The Hellbound Heart, however, you may be able to pull it off. Trying to shoehorn the Hellraiser movies into the WoD might be difficult, yeah. ![]() 7/7/2023 0 Comments Unequal by Michael Eric Dyson![]() ![]() He lives with his family in New York City and Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
